On 3/24/00, the S&P 500 closed at a then all-time high of 1527 before beginning a year bear market that bottomed
at 777 on 10/09/02. The Index climbed back to a record close of 1565 on 10/09/07 before falling again.
The S&P 500 reached a new low of 677 on 3/09/09. ( The S&P 500 is an unmanaged index of 500 widely held stocks that is generally
considered representative of the US stock market )
